'Ready to Learn' pledge

Published on: 24 Mar 2017

MANGOTSFIELD School is continuing to raise expectations with the introduction after Easter of a new behaviour for learning programme.

The Ready to Learn scheme has already proved highly successful in a number of schools in Bristol and beyond, including Henbury School in north Bristol and Hans Price Academy in Weston-s-Mare.

Staff at Mangotsfield have visited these schools and others before creating their own version of the scheme, which has zero tolerance of disruption and involves those that break the rules having to  spend 24 hours in isolation, includimg an  after-school detention.

Head teacher David Spence has explained Ready to Learn to students and parents and said most families were very supportive.

"We are raising the bar significantly," he said. "We have invested time in training for staff and students so we can enforce strict rules around things like smoking, truancy and use of mobile phones, while making sure the vulnerabl receive the support they need."
