THE FOUNDING member of a Downend-based Scout organisation was on hand to help celebrate the group’s 50th anniversary.
Len Werrett, 94, started the 85th Kingswood Scout Group back in 1965 and is now the group’s president.
Joining the party at the group’s headquarters at the Christ Church Centre in Quakers Road were the first Cub leaders, Stan and Doreen Cruse, and the first Scout leader, Phillip Allen.
Also in attendance were more than 80 past and current members of the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.
Stan brought along his original neckerchief and everyone looked at photographs of various landmark events over the years.
After Len cut the birthday cake, he was presented with a certificate and badge for the incredible achievement of seventy years’ service in Scouting.
Sally Green, Scouter-in-Charge, said: “The Scout group has had a commemorative badge made to be worn on the back of the group scarf and all new young people who join Beavers, Cubs and Scouts during the next year will be given this special badge.
“We hope there will be many more special birthday parties in the future.”
