Sing a song of joy for festive season
Published on: 24 Nov 2016
THE lights are on, the shops are busy, the weather is cold - the countdown to Christmas has begun!
And if the shenanigans of Black Friday have left you depressed, enjoy the many items in this edition of Downend Voice that are guaranteed to cheer you up.
As always, many people of our area are giving time and thought to help others. From the tots dressing up for Children in Need to the volunteers from the Round Table who go straight from their fantastic fireworks event to operating Santa's Sleigh, they are all making a fantastic effort.
There are people filling shoeboxes, giving to the foodbank and other charities that help those in need, and singing seasonal songs to make us all feel festive. Shopkeepers, despite this being their busiest time of the year, are going the extra mile too. Some in Downend opened late as the tree was lit, while those in Staple Hill are determined to make sure that Christmas on the Hill is a big success.
