Slimmers aid Jack’s Fund

SLIMMING group members have thrown their weight behind fundraising efforts for Bristol Children's Hospital.
Anna Marie Manning has enrolled her five Slimming World groups to raise money for the Jack Banks Star Tribute Fund as part of the organisation's six-week Slim for Good initiative.
Jack died in 2008 at the age of nine and his family, who live in Chesterfield Road, Downend, have since raised more than £70,000 in his memory.
His mum Paula, who attends one of the slimming groups in Staple Hill, said the groups were holding various events including afternoon tea, low ‘syns’ cake sales, a ‘Gromit’ raffle and book swaps.
“Anna Marie is thrilled with the way her groups have really got involved in raising money for Jack’s Fund and will be tracking the total weight loss across her groups as part of this six-week Slimming World challenge,” she said.
The fund, part of the Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal for the hospital where Jack was treated for leukaemia, was boosted by another £987 after a clairvoyant event last month.
Paula said: “I would like to thank Pomphrey Hill Sports Pavilion for letting us use their venue, my friend Jackie Winslow for organising the evening and Pete Hamblin, Jane Fishlock and Lorraine Lane, who were our three mediums and who provided lots of fun and laughter throughout the evening which began by getting us all to sing ‘Spirit in the Sky’”.
