RUTH Tavener, of St Mary’s Players, is this year’s winner of the group’s Sid Lewis Award.
She has been presented with a handmade wooden trophy created by talented club member Geoff Bowen.
The award has been awarded annually since 2008 in memory of Sid, a long standing member of the club Sid.
Spokeswoman Lizzy Cummins said: “Sid was a great friend to many. As well as his beautiful tenor voice, he brought great laughter to the club and will always be cherished in our memories.
“The award is always given to a member who does something special for the club. This year it was awarded to Ruth, who has gone above and beyond her duties as a committee member, performer and friend.”
The club, which meets at Page Hall in Staple Hill, had an excellent turnout at its 55th annual meeting, including many new members who joined following recent auditions.
Lizzy said: “It is great to welcome these new members to the club in preparation for our production of South Pacific next year.
“We now have a growing number of men in the club but there is still space for any men who fancy a go at being on stage and enjoy singing. No experience necessary!”
She added: “We will look forward to seeing some of the local community soon at Christmas on the Hill, where we will be singing some carols.”
