Staple Hill Probus Club all at sea
Published on: 01 Jul 2016
STAPLE Hill Probus Club’s all at sea - well the river actually. Members, wives, partners and friends enjoying a day cruising down the River Thames to Henley on Thames in June this year.
This is one of many trips our club has organised including Theatre trips, The London Eye, Brecon Beacons, Owl sanctuary, Haynes Motor Museum and National Trust properties. We have trips planned later in the year to a Distillery, the Royal Mint and Webbs of Wychbold for Christmas shopping!
Although a club for retired men, women play an important part in the club’s ethos. Wives and partners are invited to regular meetings that are of interest to a wider audience and can stay to enjoy the Ladies Lunches that are held several times a year. Wives and partners are particularly welcome at the annual lunch held in November.
We have a programme of talks at our fortnightly meetings when we enjoy fascinating talks from both male and female speakers. We meet at Downend Cricket Club on the first and third Tuesday of the month. We start at 10.30am and usually finish around 12:45. There is tea/coffee and biscuits available beforehand from about 10am.
Our club will be celebrating its 35th anniversary in January 2017. Being a club for retired men, by definition, we either have, or are fast approaching our bus passes. We need new members. Please don’t think you have to have been a captain of industry to join, just come along to our next meeting and see if it’s for you. You can contact Colston Green on Bristol 9566631 for further details. Roger Williams
