STAPLETON School of Dancing, which runs classes in Downend, has  celebrated its 70th anniversary.

The school was founded in 1942 by Miss Pat Short and is now run by Miss Miranda Beard and Miss Samantha Axford.

A black-tie fundraiser was held at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall and raised £4,266.14 for the Pat Short Bursary, as well as towards other projects to help improve the school facilities.

The bursary is a gift of money to students from the Stapleton School of Dancing who go on to full time dance and teacher training to help towards their first set of uniform at their new college.

Miss Miranda said:  “We were overwhelmed with everyone’s support and generosity. We’d like to thank everyone again who bought raffle tickets, donated prizes and attended the gala.”
