Storm Imogen damage in Downend

HOMEOWNERS in Downend had a lucky escape when Storm Imogen brought down a huge tree.
Thankfully the Black Poplar fell away from any houses but ended up in five gardens - three in Badminton Road and two in Sutherland Avenue.
The tree, which came down on Monday February 8, caused damage to plants, paths, garden walls and fences.
Downend resident and photographer Bruce Gibbs was on hand to capture the scene.
“It was a Black Poplar, which is a very fast grower and was probably only about 60 years old,” he told Downend Voice.
“It was quite a landmark in Downend as it could be seen from quite a long way off.”
Gusts of up to 73mph were recorded in Bristol that day.
