Success in first competition for cheer squad

A MOTHER and daughter-run cheerleading squad based at Bromley Heath and Frenchay are celebrating two recent successes.
Bristol Starlight entered two of their teams into the inaugural Gloucester Cheer Competition and jumped for joy when the under 7s scooped first prize.
Their success was even more remarkable as it was the first competition the team had entered.
During the same event, the under nines won the trophy for highest score in the entire competition – top out of all 27 teams throughout the South West that took part.
The squad, for children aged three to nine, was set up in September 2010 by Deb Denny and her then 15-year-old daughter Ally after the pair qualified as UK Cheerleading Association coaches.
“It started out as a hobby that myself and Ally could share together – and from there it has developed into a popular local club. Some of the very original cheerleaders- who started out as enthusiastic three-year-olds, are still going strong!”
Having gone from strength to strength, the squad now runs on three different days, Monday, Wednesday and Fridays in Bromley Heath and Frenchay.
In January a pre-school group was opened and these young cheerleaders are now getting ready for their first public performance in July.
“The focus of the squad is having fun and enjoying exercise and team work,” said Deb.
Deb will be running an introduction to cheerleading workshop for four to seven year olds in August. To find out more call her on 0117 957 0009 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
