Sue Ryder Sevens — big success at Cleve rugby club

CLEVE RFC played host to 12 teams in a new competition to find Bristol’s best sevens side.
The first winners of the Sue Ryder Sevens were Richardson Healthcare, who beat Business West in a hard-fought final.
The event on July 27 involved 33 games of exciting and competitive rugby between teams from local clubs, specialist sevens sides, company teams and the RAF’s sevens team The Spitfires. Among those taking part were Cleve, Dings Crusaders, Old Bristolians, the Godfathers and Sodbury Otters.
Bristol Rugby players, including many of this season’s new signings, were in attendance on the day. Each team in the tournament was supported and coached by a Bristol Rugby first team player. Director of Rugby Andy Robinson said: “The Sue Ryder Sevens is an exciting new tournament for a very worthy cause. Bristol Rugby want to support local community causes and events such as these, and we are very pleased to be involved.”
Event organiser and Sue Ryder fundraiser Chris Andrews said: “We are very pleased with the outcome of the Sue Ryder Sevens; the rugby was exciting, the teams competitive, and the fundraising successful. It is the first time we have run the event and we are hoping to do it again in 2014.”
The event raised £3,000 for Sue Ryder, a national healthcare charity providing care for incurable illnesses at 13 hospices and neurological care centres across the UK. For more information visit www.sueryder.org/about-us.
