A SOUTH Gloucestershire charity which supports stray dogs in the district is hoping animal lovers will join them for a family fun day later this month.

South Glos Strays will host the event, which features a dog show, on Sunday August 21 from 9.45am-4pm at Avon Riding Centre, opposite Blaise Castle car park.

It boasts craft and gift stalls, dog-themed stalls, children's games, face painting, a pet drawing competition and much more. There will also be food, cakes and a barbecue.

Entry is 50p for adults which includes a programme. Children are free.

To find out how to enter the dog show, which includes novelty classes and prizes and rosettes to fifth place, email Julia at or call her on 0776 8285009 (evenings). You can also visit the charity's website or Facebook page.

South Glos Strays was set up by a local dog warden in 2010 with the aim of creating a network of volunteers to help the stray dogs in South Gloucestershire.

The animals are rehomed through rescue centres across the UK.
