The art of photography
Published on: 05 May 2014
THESE lovely pictures are the work of Downend Camera Club members. You can see more of their photos at Downend Library from May 23 to June 6 and at Mangotsfield Festival next month.
Roger Marsh tells us a bit more about the club:
I HAD just purchased my first digital SLR camera when I met members of the Downend Camera Club at the 2011 Mangotsfield Festival. I had a long and interesting chat about the club and its photographic activities. They invited me to come along to one of their Tuesday night meetings. I persuaded my wife Angie to come along as well and we had a very interesting evening. We found the members very friendly and three weeks later we joined the club. It holds meetings every Tuesay evening, starting at 8 o'clock. The venue is the Assembly Hall, Salisbury Road, Downend, BS16 5RA.
During the year, guest speakers come along to talk and illustrate aspects of their photographic work. We have tutorial evenings where we help each other with any photo problems or share idea and experiences with the new photo equipment that is on the market. There are a range of photographic competitions involving prints and digital images. We also have a quiz night, an annual bring and buy sale and summer barbecue.
Group photo shoots to various locations are also in our programme. We have reciprocal visits with other local camera clubs to show and share our ;photographic work., which can be seen at Downend library from May 23 – June 6 and as part of the autumn fes tival at Staple Hi ll Library from October 21 to November 4.
Our big exhibition is at thed Mangotsfield Festival on June 14 in the craft tent. Come and meet us in person. The club has approximately 40 members of all ages and photographic abilities so give us a try and let's make photography fun.
