The completion of the new play area for Leap Valley, off Aintree Drive and known locally as the David Wilson Estate, has been delayed for a couple of weeks but it should be completed by the end of June and the children from Great Expectations Day Nursery in Baugh Gardens have been invited to help open it officially on July 5th.
Downend and Bromley Heath Parish Council have been working with South Gloucestershire Council, who are responsible for all the Play Areas in the Parish, for several years and it is now the turn of Leap Valley Play Area.
It was installed about 23 years ago when the nearby houses were built and was looking very tired with limited play value and some of the equipment could not be repaired.
The Parish Council agreed to fund the refurbishment and through consultation with the Friends of Leap Valley, local parents and the nearby Pre-School and Nursery it was agreed to design the equipment for pre-school aged children.
The Parish Council has received lots of help with the design and installation from South Gloucestershire Council Play Coordinator Tina Rainey who says that the new multi-play unit will have much greater opportunity for climbing, crawling, sliding, swinging, balancing and imaginative play, such as pretending to sail down the Leap Valley!

For those of you who have never visited Leap Valley now is your chance to go on a discovery tour. The Play Area is in the middle but there are lots of other play opportunities. Why not go exploring in the woods or by the pond, play pooh sticks at the bridge over the stream or have a picnic in the meadow?
You can enter from Aintree Drive, Bury Hill View or by using the footpath off Badminton Road just past the Methodist Church. You can find a map and more information about the Valley at http://www.simplesite.com/friendsofleapvalley
