CHILDREN from 12 primary schools took part in the third annual Mangotsfield & Downend Schools (MaD) Olympiad at Pomphrey Hill.
The infant competition involved every Year 2 child in the area competing in events such as sprints, jumps, relays and throws as well as fun activities such as egg and spoon and obstacle races.
The afternoon event was for the best junior athletes from each school, who took part in a range of track and field events marshalled by student
sports leaders from local secondary schools.
Blackhorse Primary won the infant tournament while Bromley Heath Junior came out on top in the senior competition.
The event was launched in 2012 with the intention of creating a legacy of the London Olympics by increasing children's fitness and fostering an enjoyment of participating in sport.
Look out for a full report and more photos in the August print edition of Downend Voice.
