YOUNG people have been pounding the streets of Downend in order to sniff out the best chippy.

The youngsters, aged from 11 to 18, took part in the Great Downend Chip Shop Survey as part of activities at the Faith youth group at Christ Church Downend.

Around 30 members each donated £1 and purchased chips from Good Frydays in Badminton Road, Westbourne Chippy in Westbourne Road and Four Seasons in Cleevewood Road.

Each youngster used different categories - including price, friendliness, presentation, texture, amount and taste – to judge the shops, giving them marks out of ten.

And it looks like it’s good news for chip lovers in Downend – all the eateries scored highly with Good Frydays narrowly scooping first prize.

Youth leader Gary Smart said: “It was a fun evening and a safe way for young people to associate outside of school as well as being something a bit different.

“Some of the members of the youth group invited along friends so lots of new friendships were formed. It made it easier for young people to come along who might feel intimidated turning up at a youth group for the first time.”
