VDANCE Academy in Mangotsfield has many reasons to celebrate.
The school, attended by more than 300 children, has notched up its tenth anniversary – and it’s still growing.
Owner and director Vicky Moody started the first class with a handful of children. She now has a wide team of instructors who teach children from age three up to adults, in numerous dance styles including lyrical, hip-hop, disco, street, contemporary, jazz, ballet and show dance.
In 2015 the dance school, based at Mangotsfield School, had its highest achieving competition year to date with all of its street dance teams achieving a first place award in nationwide competitions. The teams found themselves dancing into the finals and competing in Bristol, Swansea, Kent and Cardiff Stadium.
In addition the Lyrical Senior Group were given one of the most prestigious accolades achievable in the dance competition industry last year for their dance ‘Homeless’ and have been asked to perform at the Welsh Pride in Cardiff in August 2016.
Vicky Moody said: “I am prouder than words of every single boy and girl at our school. They walk through the doors each week full of energy and ambition and a smile on their face.
“Not only are we achieving first place awards in nationwide competitions, we are building children’s confidence and giving them the opportunity to see the fun that comes hand in hand with dancing. Our school is supported by the most wonderful parents and friends and it’s not just about what goes on inside the dance school, it’s also about the opportunities it creates outside of our walls.
“It’s not all about competing, there are many classes for children who just want to come and dance weekly which is wonderful to see and they still get the opportunity to perform in shows, local displays and become part of our welcoming school.”
The street dance teams are now preparing for their first competition of the year in Stoke-on-Trent on February 28 followed by the World Dance Organisation competition on June 19, taking place in Bristol.
Vdance Academy always welcomes new children and offers classes every day of the week. For further information contact Vicky at Vicky@vickysdance.com.
