Boxer Jude wins at the double
A DOWNEND Boxing Club fighter chalked up two victories in two days.
Jude Moore, of Hillfields, represented England against Wales on March 2 at the Pyramid Centre, Portsmouth.
It was 15-year-old Jude's fourth England appearance, and he faced the tough Paddy Murphy of Penyrheol.
An immaculate first round saw Jude land cleaner shots and use his boxing ability to maximum effect. The second and third round were scrappy, but Jude did enough to take the decision.
]The following day, Jude took to the ring at the club’s home at the Harry Crook Centre, Fishponds, to open his national junior championship account.
The Western Counties championship is the second round of the tournament, where Jude faced Alfie Woods of Christchurch Boxing Club, Dorset.
A controlled performance by the Downend ABC boxer saw him take a unanimous win to progress to the next round.
Head coach Craig Turner said: “I am happy with Jude's work this weekend, as he has learned valuable lessons from the two contests.
Jude then followed up with a win on March 10 in the pre-quarter round of the championships against Eastern counties, again at the Harry Crook centre.
Since moving to the centre just two years ago, the boxing club has hosted 15 tournaments, including the boys and girls’ clubs championships, and a club international against Irish opposition and has become a venue for coach education.
