Bromley Heath United under 10s clinch league title

A narrow 5-4 victory at Whitchurch was enough to confirm Bromley Heath United under 10s as winners of the Hanham minor league under 10 B division. Having only been promoted from division C the previous season, this was a great achievement and featured key contributions from all 23 members of the squad.

Whitchurch belied their status as the bottom of the table side, taking the lead early in the first half. However, they gradually came more into the game and Baz Miller and Luke Baxter both went close before Luke Gill took up a good position in the box to convert a Kieran McDonagh-Langley cross. The second goal came from the same source, this time Gill volleyed home following good work from Callum Bailey.

Whitchurch continued to press and just after half time drew level with a great run and finish down from the right wing. Worse was to follow for Bromley Heath when a speculative effort from just beyond the half way line sailed over keeper Oliver Harper’s head and into the net. McDonagh-Langley’s trusty left foot then restored parity and Tom Walker’s well struck shot tested the keeper but Whitchurch scored the winner following more good work down the right.

Game two started well when Sam Lane appeared to have been dispossessed in the box, but showing great determination, he slid in and managed to place his shot in the corner of the net.

The Bromley Heath defence looked a lot more solid with Aaron Flynn and Matthew Pound working hard to keep out the Whitchurch attacks. They were helped by the midfield of Cameron Hopkins, Joel Britton and Thomas Gibbs who all put in a good shift at both ends.

The second goal came after great work from Lane who despite being surrounded by defenders, managed to get his cross in to Gibbs who had stolen in at the far post to sweep the ball home. Pound’s fierce free kick then went just wide and a penalty was missed but Bromley Heath held on to win game two by 2-0 and make the overall score 5-4.
