Carers take time out with an arts class
YOUNG carers took some time out from looking after their loved ones by taking part in a fun ceramics workshop.
The event was organised by the Fishponds-based Carers Support Centre for youngsters from across Bristol and South Gloucestershire and was hosted and funded by the arts charity Create.
Kama McKenzie, young carers service manager, said: “This hands-on workshop gave young carers the chance to take some much-needed time away from their caring role and do something creative, sociable and fun.
“Events like this mean everything to young carers. They give them the time and space to relax, make friends and just be kids for a while. These activities also allow them to meet others in similar situations, reminding them that there are other children like them, facing the same challenges. Accessing these activities is crucial for young carers’ wellbeing.”
The Carers Support Centre is a charity based at the Vassall Centre.
As well as workshops, the charity offers local young carers activities including cinema, theatre trips and day trips.
