THE NEW cafe and community building in Page Park is proving its versatility after hosting a gig starring none other than comedian Josh Widdicombe.

The event, held at the Bean Tree Cafe on January 18, was part of a series of gigs, known as Belly Laughs Comedy, held at cafes and restaurants in Bristol throughout January.

The initiative was the brainchild of Bristol comedian Mark Olver to raise money for the charity The Julian Trust which works with rough sleepers in the city.

Mark used his contacts to persuade some the UK's best comedians to take part.

Staple Hill councillor Ian Boulton was among the guests at the intimate venue.

He said: "The Bean Tree Café is setting the standard in how our local traders can work with the community to encourage visitors into their businesses and into Staple Hill.

"The first comedy night, featuring Josh Widdicombe, was a great success attracting both local residents and comedy lovers from further afield."
