Club supporters will walk to away fixture
SUPPORTERS of Downend Cricket Club are planning to walk the 12 miles to their away match at Bath to raise money for good causes.
The money raised by the sponsored walk, which it is hoped will become an annual event, will be split evenly between the club and nominated charity Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The walk takes place on June 5, starting at 8.30am from the Grace Memorial Ground in Downend Road.
We are walking to Bath Cricket Ground along the cycle track – hopefully in time for the match!
People who join in do not have to walk the whole route – any distance and participation of all generations would be most welcome, and if you prefer to cycle, scoot or dance your way along, even better.
Anyone who would like to take part can get involved by adding a comment to the post on the sponsored walk on the Downend Cricket Club Hub Facebook page.
Sponsorship forms will also be available at the club.
Donations can be made via a page on the JustGiving.com website, which can be found at bit.ly/3eVH2sh.
Funds raised for the club help pay for costs and improvements such as the recently-completed revamp of the changing rooms.
There are some other great events lined up for this year.
On the field, Downend 1st XI lost their first game in the West Of England Premier Cricket League Premier 1 at home to Lansdown but tied their second game in a thriller away to Bridgwater.
They then won their home game against Bedminster on the last ball on May 15.
The 2nd XI won their first game in the Bristol & District Cricket Association first division, against Bristol Pakistanis, by five wickets, while their second game against Brislington was cancelled and their match against Chew Magna was abandoned with Downend on top.
The 3rd Xl lost their first game to Clevedon, while the second and third games were cancelled.
At junior level the Under 11s and Under 13s lost their first games both in close finishes. Miles Davis
