Co-op's big boost for youth group
A YOUTH group based at Christ Church Downend has been given more than £6,000 to support its work, thanks to Co-op customers.
The Ignite Youth Groups received a total of £6,415.81 from the Co-op Local Community Fund, which supports projects using money spent on some of the supermarket's branded products.
Before the lockdown the volunteer youth team was running 11 free youth groups each week, as well as youth events, community projects and residential sessions.
Although the pandemic has affected its activities it has continued to run three groups each week on Zoom, even during the holidays.
The youth team has also run well-being sessions at Downend School and training to deliver new well-being courses for young people and adults called Kintsugi Hope.
Ignite Youth Group's Diane Paddon said: "Kintsugi Hope courses help young people and adults find treasure in life's scars. These courses have the potential to be of great benefit to our community.
"Thanks to the generosity of Downend Coop and Coop members, the Christ Church youth team will continue to be able to offer support and a safe fun space for young people to meet and flourish in mental, physical and spiritual wholeness."
