SPRING is bursting out all over in Downend and Bromley Heath this month thanks to the sterling efforts of volunteers.

The second year of Downend in Bloom is proving even more spectacular than the first, as the crocus, daffodils and tulip bulbs planted last autumn come into flower.

And there’s more to come - members have been busy during the winter planning and preparing for the summer displays.

Downend in Bloom was formed in July 2014 by enthusiastic folk who wanted to make the parish an even more attractive place to live and give pleasure to all residents. The group has more than 25 members. Open meetings are held at St Augustine’s Church Hall, and details can be found on its website www.dbhinbloom.com

Councillor Chris Boulton said: “We have been very encouraged by the support and financial contributions made by the residents, companies, and the parish council. The initial funds raised will enable our community to have additional summer displays in the High Street, Cleevewood and Quaker Road shops and in many other locations in the area.”

More money is needed to keep up the good work so Councillor Bolton urged people to consider making a donation or sponsoring a display.
