MORE than 80 primary school children from 14 different schools enjoyed a week of fun and games at Christ Church Downend in the first week of the school holidays for the Adventure Cruise Holiday Club.

Gunge featured strongly, along with water, cake, gallons of squash, and lots of shellfish.

The Parish Hall was transformed into a cruise ship and the children experienced a variety of crafts, songs and games with a nautical theme. The popular puppets Lucy and Bert kept them entertained as the children “sailed the 5’Cs: choice, challenge, change, call and commitment. A Bible story each day helped them to learn about how people responded to meeting Jesus, and how we might do so today.

The week was led by Tracie Jenkins, children’s worker at Christ Church Downend and a familiar face for many primary school children from her work with assemblies, RE lessons and clubs.

On the Thursday evening the crew celebrated with both parents and children at a barbecue on the field at Christ Church Infants School.
