ARE you ready to rock? If so, check out the latest invitation from Mangotsfield’s very own independent music school.
Bristol Rock Guitar (BRG) was established by Richard Thornton in 2011 to provide tuition in guitar, bass guitar, drums and vocals and to improve students’ stage musicianship.
BRG enables people to meet other like-minded individuals, form bands, learn from each other and share their passion for rock music.
Having held two successful showcase events in the past, BRG has unveiled plans for a third next month at Pomphrey Hill sports pavilion.
The last event saw 170 tickets sold and featured 12 different bands made up of BRG students. The ages of musicians ranged from nine to 50-something, and many performed live for the first time alongside peers and more seasoned musicians.
The next show is shaping up to be just as exciting as the first with plenty of new acts and musicians as well more established bands returning to perform again.
Tickets for the event, which takes place on Friday October 2, are £7 each or £20 for four, and include a buffet with vegetarian options.
Prior to the showcase event, a networking/open day is being held on Saturday September 5 from 12-4pm where you can find out more about BRG and how to get involved in the October event.
The aim of the open day is to encourage local music fans to meet tutors, check out the facilities and speak to like-minded students. It is hoped that a few new bands may be formed from local people and students on this day. It is is open to anyone, and drummers and singers are encouraged to get involved as they are in high demand. Singers to perform in BRG’s new rock choir group are also needed.
The open day takes place at the BRG studio at their new premises at 26 Stockwell Drive, Mangotsfield BS16 9DN.
