MORE than 70 people enjoyed the first Family Pancake Brunch at Christ Church Downend.
The event at the Church Centre in Quakers Road marked the start of Lent with a pancake flipping contest and an Olympic slalom-style pancake race outside in the sunshine as well as art and craft activities.
Children wrapped sweets into parcels to try to keep uneaten until Easter Day.
Helen Buick, head of children's ministry, said: "We learnt that Lent is not only a time when you might give up chocolate or social media; some people use Lent as a time to make space for God in our busy lives, such as lighting a candle and sharing random acts of kindness."
