Pomphrey Hill Remembrance
HUNDREDS of people turned out for the Nation’s Beacon event at Pomphrey Hill, organised by Emersons Green Town Council.
Residents of all ages, from those in pushchairs to those in wheelchairs, attended to mark the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice at the end of the First World War.
Brian Hewitt MBE, the Royal British Legion county chairman, read out the names of those that had been killed and are listed on Mangotsfield War Memorial.
The Bristol Military Wives choir sang two songs and the event ended with Mangotsfield town crier Madeleine Bills giving a cry for peace at the same time as the same message was being given all over the country.
Finally, the church bells of St James rang out simultaneously with bells around the city and the rest of the land as part of the commemoration.
