Poppy parade needs £600
A FUNDRAISING campaign is under way to hold the annual Remembrance Day parade and service in Staple Hill.
An event organising committee has been set up with the aim of raising £600 so the event on November 10 can go ahead.
At the time of going to print, £270 had been donated via an online funding page.
Staple Hill and Mangotsfield councillor Ian Boulton, who is a member of the committee, posted this message on the site: “Staple Hill’s annual Remembrance Parade and Service has become an important event in our community diary.
“We hope to have our usual parade down High Street and Broad Street followed by a Service at the Memorial in Page Park. Each year we are astounded by the increasing numbers of people who participate in this collective Act of Remembrance. This year we need to improve the speaker system to accommodate the large numbers of people who now attend. We also have to pay the increasing cost of liability insurance. The only way we can fund this is through donations from the community. Many thanks in anticipation of your support for this important event.”
