CHILDREN at Barley Close Community Primary School were moved by a  national newspaper story about a nine-year-old boy who just wanted a home for Christmas.

Head teacher Jo Williams said: "Having read the story they wanted to help. They arranged a sponsored Christmas jumper wearing day and a raffle to raise money for Shelter. In total they raised £283.14.

"We are incredibly proud of them."

To raise awareness,  the Year 6 pupils also wrote poems and displayed them around school.
