THIS month, in conjunction with Rabbit Awareness Week, here at Avenue Veterinary Centre we are celebrating bunnies for the entire month of June! Rabbit Awareness Week is an event held each year across the whole of the UK. The purpose of this event is to help raise awareness of rabbit welfare and to help improve the standard of living for bunnies everywhere. To support this event Avenue Veterinary Centre is offering FREE rabbit health checks throughout June so you can bring your bunny along to our nurse led rabbit clinics and get a free rabbit check.
Attending our rabbit clinics is particularly beneficial as you will get all kinds of useful advice on rabbit welfare. There are five welfare needs: environment, diet, behaviour, company and health. We will look at each of the five welfare needs of your pet bunny and see if there are any areas for improvement. This year we have chosen to focus particularly on ‘Bunny Buddies’ which comes under the welfare need of ‘company’. We will take a closer look at your bunny’s social needs, as they are socially quite complex pets. People often don’t realise that rabbits are incredibly social animals and need a bunny friend.
Many owners keep rabbits alone in a hutch and this leads to a miserable life for rabbits especially after a long period of time. Rabbits are happiest when kept with other rabbits. Therefore, rabbits should ideally live in friendly pairs or groups. However, keeping the wrong pairings together can lead to unwanted kittens and/or fighting so getting professional advice is always highly recommended.
It is also strongly advised that bunny owners get their pet rabbits vaccinated against Myxomatosis and Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Disease, which are two particularly nasty infectious diseases that can cause a lot of suffering to rabbits and can often be fatal. Therefore we are offering 10% off this vaccination if you come to our rabbit vaccination afternoon on Wednesday 28th June 2017.
Alternatively, join our Avenue Healthcare Club. Not only can you spread the cost monthly but you will also benefit from saving up to 24% per year on your bunny’s preventative healthcare including vaccinations. Please contact Avenue Veterinary Centre on 0117 9569038 to make an appointment or discuss joining our Healthcare Club.
We strongly feel that by supporting Rabbit Awareness Week on its 10th year anniversary we can help improve the lives of the UK’s bunnies.
If you are aware of a friend or neighbour who owns a pet rabbit then tell them about Rabbit Awareness Week so that even more rabbits can benefit from one of our FREE rabbit MOTs. Ask for details of our ‘refer a friend’ benefits
