New Estate

PEOPLE living close to a new  housing estate in Staple Hill took the chance to have a chat with the developers.
Merlin housing association is planning to build 30 homes across the site of its former supported housing scheme at Irving Close, and the nearby garages in James Road.
With work about to begin, Merlin invited local people to meet contractors United Living, who have been appointed to build the  homes.
Shane Smith, of Merlin, said: “There’s no shortage of demand for affordable housing in Staple Hill, so these homes will provide much-needed quality accommodation. They’re in a great location; close to the high street and right next to the Bristol-Bath railway path, so we’re sure they’re going to be popular.”
The garages will be demolished first, and the former housing scheme properties will be bulldozed in May. They’ll be replaced with a mixture of one and two bedroom flats, two and three bedroom houses, plus a number of one bedroom bungalows.
The homes will mostly be for rent, although five of them will be available for people to purchase through Merlin’s shared ownership scheme.
More details about these properties will be available on Merlin’s housing association’s website soon.
