School days reminder for new development

THESE photos show the progress of a sculpture which will take pride of place in the grounds of a new housing development at Mangotsfield.
Sculptor Tom Whitehead has already transformed a huge piece of stone into the outlines of two school children, a nod to the history of the site of the new Richmond Grove development.
The statuettes of a schoolboy and girl reading a book represent the many pupils who attended the former Mangotsfield C of E School, acting as a reminder of the history of the site.
A small ceremony to celebrate the sculpture will be held when the artwork is put in place, although a date has yet to be set.
The housing development is being built by Yate-based Cotswold Homes, which is financing the bespoke installation.
Former pupils who would like to attend the ceremony should contact Staple Hill and Mangotsfield councillor Michael Bell on 07875 631817 or email michael.bell@southglos.gov.uk
