THESE young footballers look ready for a great season in their smart new kit.

The girls, from Emersons Green JFC under 14s, were given the kit by Andrews estate agents in Downend as part of a sponsorship deal for the 2017-2018 season.

Coach Andy Wright, who runs the team with James Sheedy, said the deal means a lot to the club.

He said: "Girl’s football is one of the fastest growing sports following the recent success of the national team and the TV coverage this gets and by arranging these types of sponsorship arrangements we are able to keep the costs down to our club members in the hope of attracting new players to the game.

"I believe that the benefits of team sports truly benefit young children as it helps with their physical and social development. Our club is run by a dedicated band of volunteers but with soaring running costs sponsorship deals like this ensure that playing football is one of the best value for money activities for youngsters."

Emersons Green JFC were formed in September 2014 with just three teams.

Andy said: "We are entering the new season now with 14 teams which is testament to the commitment of the coaches and committee. Having entered six teams in the Bristol Girls League this season this makes us the fastest growing girls club in the Bristol area and only one other club has entered more teams in the Girls league.

"We are determined to continue this growth and are recruiting girls from six to eight-years-old to prepare them for the future.  It is our intention, as the girls continue through the ages, that we will take them through to women’s football."

The club is keen to recruit more girls to its under 14s team. Any girls in school Years 8 or 9 who are interested in joining are welcome to come along and try out on Wednesdays at 6pm at Walker Playing Fields.

Andy said: "We have an excellent facility at Walker Playing Fields and have plans to develop the site in the very new future where we plan to make our social club an important venue for the community and for players' families to come and relax."

The club is also interested in recruiting girls and boys from six to 15-years-old.

Anyone interested should contact chairman Paul Thomas on 0786 1674894 who will put them in touch with the relevant coach.
