Team Jack pulls in £5,000 for fund

Paula and other members of Team Jack completed the Bristol 10k and five supporters of Jack's fund took part in a mass skydive with other fund-raisers for the hospital's Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal.

As reported in May's Downend Voice, Paula and Rob Banks's son Jack died five years ago at the age of nine after a long battle with leukaemia.

The family, who live in Downend, are aiming to raise £100,000 for a playroom and conservatory dedicated to Jack at the hospital where he was treated.

Paula said that all members of Team Jack, who included family, friends and colleagues, finished the 10k and between them raised more than £2,500. Some also acted as marshals.

“It wasn't bad for a Sunday morning run – and if anyone fancies taking part next year, the Grand Appeal is one of the main beneficiaries again,” she said.

“On May 18, five very brave supporters of Jack's fund took to the skies, jumping from 13,000 feet above an airfield in Swindon, raising more than £2,000 towards Jack's new playroom and conservatory.

“Thanks to everyone who is supporting us, including those who have read our story in Downend Voice.”

The next fund-raising events for Jack's Star Tribute Fund for the Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal are a ladies night at Pomphrey Hill Sports Pavilion on July 5 and a fancy dress party at the same venue on September 13.

Donations of raffle prizes for both of these would be welcome.
