DOWNEND School has been rated one of the best in the country in a popular parents’ guide.

The school was one of three from South Gloucestershire to make the top 500 in the Sunday Times Parent Power Schools guide 2019.

The guide rates schools according to their exam results, comparing how pupils have performed in GCSEs and A-levels.

It rated Downend School 433rd of the country’s 4,168 secondary schools.

The top-rated South Gloucestershire school was Castle School in Thornbury, another member of the Castle School Educational Trust (CSET), which runs Downend School.

St Brendan’s Sixth Form Centre in Brislington was the top rated Bristol school in the table in 73rd place, while three secondary schools were in the top 500: Bristol Cathedral Choir School (270), Cotham School, Bristol (359) and Colston’s Girls’ School (461).
